Just an hour’s drive, depending on traffic, or a 45-minute train ride away from Pompeii is the coastal town of Sorrento. In Sorrento, time slows. It’s where every moment is an aesthetic image waiting to be posted. The town sits majestically on cliffs that overlook the azure waters of the Bay of Naples. At sunset, […]
If you are new here, I’ll get you up to speed. This day trip to Pompeii is part of a more extensive vacation where I tour Italy and Greece, also known as my Euro Summer 2 trip (#ES2). After spending a few days in Rome, it was time to head south to Pompeii. Remarkably preserved […]
After spending the afternoon walking around Rome, taking pictures, and sipping Bellinis while looking at the Pantheon, it was time to test my cooking skills. I don’t think I’m a good cook, I know I’m a great cook, but pasta-making was a little difficult. We attended InRome Cooking‘s three-hour class, and it was a very […]
If you haven’t scrolled through your feed and seen a Euro Summer takeover, I’m not sure what side of social media you are on. The last time I stepped off a plane in Europe was two years ago when I visited London, Paris, and Barcelona. That trip triggered a chain of events in my life […]
Can't get enough? Here's more 😏
After spending the afternoon walking around Rome, taking pictures, and sipping Bellinis while looking at the Pantheon, it was time to test my cooking skills. I don’t think I’m a good cook, I know I’m a great cook, but pasta-making was a little difficult.
We attended InRome Cooking‘s three-hour class, and it was a very fun experience. Now I can make pasta, and I learned from the mecca of pasta. Using the roller was a little confusing at first, but I got the hang of it. Regardless, getting the right consistency for your dough is key.
Located just a short walk from the Pantheon, InRome Cooking Classes is a cute facility. The team of chefs leading the class was very nice. Everyone spoke English, cracked jokes, was patient, and gave a clear demonstration. This group offers a variety of class options; I suggest you check out their website. It’s a cute experience, I learned something, and now I can say I made pasta in Italy.
The best part of the class was eating the pasta. While making our noodles, another chef prepared the sauce in the kitchen. Once all the noodles were ready to be boiled, a dining area equipped with a ceiling mirror and endless wine was set up in the back of the class.
The noodles were cooked to perfection—al dente! Mushy pasta is a no-no in Italy; they prefer a noodle with some bite. My goal is to recreate that level of chewiness for a dinner party. How fly would that be? Hi, welcome to my dinner party. Yes, I made the noodles. I’ll make a blog post about me hosting a dinner party with home-made pasta and teach you how to do it yourself. But in the meantime check out my YouTube video with a recap from the class.
If you travel the world, whether to Italy or Alaska, I encourage you to try immersive activities like this class. It’s a great way to meet people, ask someone from the area questions and recommendations, and try something new in a new place. Not to mention, the memories are worth it.
